Why was everyone wearing rubber gloves today? Why were people walking around with large garbage bags?

Well, today was “Clean Up Australia Day” for schools in Australia. Everybody went out and picked up all sorts of rubbish from around the school. We found a car wheel rim, a tile, a screw driver, a hose, a ring, lots of plastic straws, litter, chip wrappers, lolly wrappers, ancient tissues and even someone’s homework! The school looks really clean and tidy now. . .

Perhaps cleaning is better than schoolwork!!
What do you think?

    Hi guys!

I’m glad to hear that you’re doing such a hands on job as cleaning up rubbish around your school. I remember from my own days in primary school, that we spent a whole day doing exactly the same thing. The only difference is that we also cleaned up litter along the roads many kilometers outside the school. Living in Norway means that we have snow during the winter, so when the spring comes every year, there is more than flowers that pops out from underneath all of the white! Keep up the good work both with cleaning AND blogging! :)

We have a clean up Cove day soon and we will be doing what you did and we’ll probably find lots of rubbish. Mrs McPhee thinks that this is sad because we should all take responsibility for KEEPING our local area clean in the first place.

    Hi Shaun and Ryan,

It’s cool that your school and our school have something in common!
What are other special things that you do at your school??
