A Zoom and a Blast Day
Our whole class had a zoom and a blast day!
We did some experiments and discovered how to make a rocket. We got a cannister and filled it with vinegar. Then we filled the lid of the cannister with bicarb soda.
After that we immediately placed the lid back onto the cannister and turned the whole thing upside down. When the soda and the vinegar mixed together, it made a chemical reaction and started fizzing and then… then…
IT POPPED!
This is because a gas called carbon dioxide was made. The pressure of the gas made the cannister pop away from the lid. And that is how to make a rocket blast off.
Tune in for more!
Some people got splattered with the vinegar and bicarb soda. Yuck!
BLAST EACH OTHER AWAY!
This post is about another experiment our class did.
It was about blowing up a balloon to it’s limit.
We had to fill up a bottle with vinegar and then we placed some bicarb soda in a balloon.
Next we placed the balloon on top of the bottle and watched what was about to happen.
We hypothesized that the mixing of the vinegar and the bicarb soda would cause a chemical reaction to happen. This chemical reaction would make Carbon dioxide which is a gas.
The gas would build up inside the bottle, go into the balloon and blow up the balloon!
Our hypothesis was correct!
The balloon actually blew up to it’s limit!
Wow! It was a scientific procedural success!!

Debating Rounds 2 & 3 Update
On the 19th of June the BSPS (Belmore South P.S) debating team won their first debate for 07 against Hampden Park P.S. The Home side’s (BSPS) team for our second debate was………………………
1st speaker: Clement
3rd speaker: Me ( Yilmaz )
Team advisor: Martin
When Clement got up he looked very confident and he was fairly good too, I think that he was only because he didn’t have to do any rebuts.
Natalie was just fantastic she was confident all the way through not only her speech but through the entire debate she didn’t let anything get in her way.
When it was my turn to say my speech I wasn’t ready because I hadn’t got any rebuttles to use against the negative until Martin finally found a weakness in their teamline he gave it to me and I got up and walked up to the mark.
At the end of the debate the adjudicator told us our mistakes, he told us that both sides had backed up their arguments very poorly. When the adjudicator told us that we had won their was a soft wave of “YES’s” amonst the crowd!!!!! We had WON our first debate for 07!! After the crowd left all the debaters, coaches, chairperson, timekeeper came into the computer room which I am in now. We had some juice and biscuits.
Our next debate is against Campsie P.S, the topic is that “Society should listen to children more often”.

A Disappointing Loss !
Yesterday the Belmore South P.S debating team travelled to Campsie P.S for our third debate of the year. The topic for the debate was “society should listen more to children” and we were the negative which means we were saying that society should not listen more to children.
The first speaker for us was Clement. Our second speaker was Natalie and our third speaker was Martin. Our team advisor was Gloria.
We were really good and we did our best. Everyone thought we should have won, Martin thought that the adjudicator had a grudge against us! (I think he thought this because the adjudicator has adjudicated 2 of our debates and we lost both).
After the debate the adjudicator (the person who judges the debate) had some advice to make ourselves better at debating. Campsie school were nice and prepared some snacks for us to eat.
We had loads of fun at the debate and even though we lost, everyone is thinking positively and we are looking forward to our next debate which is against Strathfield South which will be held at our school. ![]()
