Hmmmm not much has been happening here for the past month or so

but

that’s because we have been working over at our wiki!

We had evil villains, vampire friends, a couple of tradesmen, sporting people, robbers, a fairy and friends from fairy tales and many visitors from Hogwarts School.

Thanks AllStars for participating in the fun – all those who came and dressed up made it a fun  day – smiles all around  

We have been playing lots of different instruments and hearing and accompanying many different tunes. Its quite hard at times to play tunes that you haven’t heard before. We have found that you get better – and it becomes easier – the more you practice and the more familiar you are with both the instrument and the tune.

We have found out about “pitch” by playing the “Pitch Perfect” game – you have to listen carefully to match the notes that are the same, or put the notes in ascending order by listening to them. Sometimes this is hard, and the timer is counting down so you have to hurry!

Recently we used charcoal pencils to sketch some aspects of our recorders. We tried to experiment by pressing softly and more firmly, using the side of the pencil and the tip of the pencil as well.

wii”ve Got The Music – Recorder Sketchings on PhotoPeach

We are studying music for the next few weeks, and we will be using the wii to help us explore and experience a huge range of instruments.

We used our Golden Time today for the intial taste of what the wii can do – everyone had a quick turn at playing an instrument and we all had a bit of a laugh as well.

BANG!!!!!!

The school sports carnival had started.

Hearts thumping, muscles straining, legs pumping.

Eyes straining for the finish line.

There it is, almost there…..

Finished.

Who else loves the carnival?

Running, jumping, stretching, gliding, playing, cheering, chanting.

Lots to do.

A great day.

NED taught us about being a good person, getting along with others and respecting yourself and everyone else too.
To help make the visit even better, NED told his story using a yo-yo and performing really good tricks.
Now lots of people have yo-yos and are learning to do tricks too!

For the next little while we will be looking at “Light and Sound” – first in a scientific way with a visit from the CSIRO Labs on Legs where we are looking forward to some more great hands on activities and experiments to do.

To get ready for this visit we spent a beautiful and sunny afternoon exploring what we already knew about light and shadows.

First up we played “Shadow Tag” outside in the playground. The person who was “it” had to catch the other kids by stamping on their shadow.

We decided that the trick was to make sure that the person who was “it” was always between you and the sun. If you did this, then it was nearly impossible for “it” to reach your shadow.

This was because our bodies blocked the light from the sun, causing a shadow behind us. If “it” was between you and the sun then your shadow was too far away from “it” for him to reach!

We also tried to make numbers and letters using our shadows – can you see the numbers and letters that we made with our bodies?

Inside, we used the OHP as the light source to make shadow animals with our hands. We also used other objects from around the room to experiment with shadows as well.

Some people were really clever at making interesting patterns and creatures with their hands.
