BANG!!!!!!

The school sports carnival had started.

Hearts thumping, muscles straining, legs pumping.

Eyes straining for the finish line.

There it is, almost there…..

Finished.

Who else loves the carnival?

Running, jumping, stretching, gliding, playing, cheering, chanting.

Lots to do.

A great day.

NED taught us about being a good person, getting along with others and respecting yourself and everyone else too.
To help make the visit even better, NED told his story using a yo-yo and performing really good tricks.
Now lots of people have yo-yos and are learning to do tricks too!

Here in New York I have found these amazingly huge games consoles.

What could we do with consoles as BIG as these?

We won Class of the Week last week and so we got to use the Nintendo DsLites in Golden Time.

Most of us knew how to use them, but for some people it was their first time.

Lots of people joined up together to play games against each other, but by the end nearly everyone was chatting to each other using picto chat.

It was great fun to use these handheld consoles with friends and a wonderful reward for trying hard!

Classes at our school have been using Moshi Monsters each morning to build class and school community ties. Each class has their own monster, and spend part of each day solving puzzles and testing our general knowledge to win rox for our Moshi Monster. We use the rox to buy food and belongings for our Moshi Monster.

We have also been using  Moshi Island to explore settings in narratives. The island has many places that would make fantastic settings for exciting stories. There is the volcano, the port, the haunted house, the snowy mountains and the swamp.

In small groups, we mind mapped our ideas for characters and problems that would appropriate for each of these settings:

We also had fun dsigning and making our own huge Moshi Monsters to decorate our classroom – here they are hanging in our room. What do you think of them???

asked questions,

solved problems,

explained answers,

tried new ways of doing things and

gave reasons!

All on World Math Day (which was a couple of weeks ago!)

We worked on computers,

used the iwb,

played games,

used rulers  to design and draw,

made models,

and wrote clues to a treasure.

Whew! Maths is everywhere, everything and lots more than just worksheets and correct answers.

We think Maths is fun too

I am still over here in the UK – England to be specific.

It’s been a busy month for me – meeting some of our blogging friends and looking at how technology is being used in Nursery Schools (little kids), Primary Schools (like us) and Secondary Schools (high Schools). Lots of different sorts of ways of using technology creatively and excitingly. Can’t wait to get back and try some of these things out.

After working hard for the last 14 weeks, we are coming to the end of the Premier’s Sporting Challenge and we needed some different activities to keep us going during PE sessions.

Over the last couple of sessions we have tried out our badminton skills and skipping skills.

Badminton is trickier than we thought it would be – the shuttlecock is very light and is caught by the wind to make things difficult J

We are trying to skip “double dutch” using two ropes. Some of us can do this but others are taking a little longer to get the hang of this skipping business!

First up , we have been using the characters in the game to write new stories about what might happen when the different characters compete against each other in the Olympic sports.

Some competitors will be at a big disadvantage like Dr Eggman and diving, but others have some advantages like Mario and the hammer throw.
