Mind Map - Natural Disasters
How cool is this?
Last week we tried out a mind mapping tool called mind42.com to organise our thinking about Natural Disasters.
We had just been introduced to Natural Disasters through some wonderful hands on science activities from the CSIRO and we thought that we would like to investigate further.
This is what we came up with - have a look at the map above - you can move themap, make the text bigger/smaller, open and close the nodes. WOW
AllStars - leave a comment about the area you would like to investigate. ![]()
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Last week we had a visit from the “Keep Australia Beautiful” council and we learnt all about our rubbish and the wide world of waste!
We found out about
- landfill
- bacteria
- chemicals
- bottles, glass, jars
- plastics
- recyclables
- contamination
- toxic
- dangers
- marine life
- pollution
- garbage
and our responsibilities towards our waste and rubbish.
There were lots of interesting things to think about - leave a comment on something YOU will do as a result of taking responsibility for your waste and rubbish :D
Go on ….. leave a comment ……..
December Voices of the World
Voices of the World - November Task
We were very late for November’s Task (so it’s not on the VOTW site) but you can check everyone else’s out here at the VOTW wiki.
But here it is anyway, we had heaps of fun making our stars on “2Paint A Picture” and choosing a background theme for our song.
We hope you enjoy!
Voices of the World
Come and have a look at the fantastic Voices of the World site.
This is where we join with over 40 other classes to share our voices and artwork in fun ways.
We are in the middle of our November task, but have a look at what we got up to in September and October!

Leadership 2007
Over the last week or two we have been participating in a variety of Leadership sessions:
Year 3 have been learning about how to be a tolerant and considerate person.
Years 4 & 5 have been learning how to be a good leader.
Year 6 have been working through a transition to High School programme.
We have all been working with groups of people from different classes - this helps us to get to know other people here at school that we wouldn’y usually have the chance to work with.
In Leadership Training we cover topics like
- Public Speaking - “Speak Up”
- Responsibility - “Stepping Up!”
- Confidence - “You Grow When You Have a Go!”
- Organization - “Think Team”
- Team Skills - “Showing the Way”
After this training, the Year 5 students have the opportunity to apply for a student leadership position for next year. They have to fill in the application and attend an interview. If they are chosen as school leaders they will present a speech at Assembly and the school will vote for the 2008 School Captains.
Good Luck to everyone in Year 5 who applies ![]()
Crazy Camp Causes Chaos!
3 days ago our crazy campers went camping. Here are a few things we did back here at school:
Water Fight War Begins“Cannonball!!” “Quickly I need ammunition.” These are just a few of the quotes used in the water war of water. Water balloons were thrown, hit and broken in the war. Water bombs cooled off the AllStars and other kids in this shirt drenching war of water. Medals were given to the wettest and driest soldiers. The battle was hard but in the end all were wet and happy.
Dragons Take Over Belmore!?! RROOOAAAARRRRR! AllStars were baked in the making of devilish dragons. Some were water dragons and others were land, but all were unique in their own way. Me, myself and I were astonished at all the creativity in the AllStars and look forward to seeing a real life one someday.
Mulan Movie Is Most Meaningful Mulan is a movie with the most humorous dragon, a lucky cricket, a stallion and a young girl set out on the most unforgettable journey. The AllStars watched this movie and were sucked in to all the adventures throughout the movie. They also hope to see Mulan 2 someday.
I would like to add some questions here, so please feel free to speak your mind: What are your feelings on the movie Mulan?
Would you feel guilty if you were Mulan’s father?
Do you believe in dragons?
Have you ever taken part in a water fight? If so how was it?
This is the dragon I made!

Dragons are Lurking!
Today we have been investigating dragons - it seems that many places and people right around the world share stories, myths and legends about dragons.
Do you know any stories about dragons? What are dragons like in the stories that you know?
Do you believe that they are/were real?
Do you think that dragons are related to these two “real” Australian dragons -
Please join our conversation about dragons ![]()
