Connected Students @ Connected Learning
On Wednesday a group of students from our school (Belmore South PS) - including 3 AllStars - represented us at the “Connected Learning Conference” at the Novotel Hotel at Brighton.
The students formed a panel to discuss their experiences using GameMaker to make digital games.
Students demonstrated their completed games, walked through how to make a game, and held a panel discussion about the value of making games in class, the educational benefits, what they learned, and their thoughts on game making. The students even answered questions from the audience.
The response from the teachers and educators in the audience was positive- and the students were professional, passionate, articulate and impressive.
Congratulations to everyone involved - you are a credit to youselves, your families and your school - thank you.
I was so proud of you all!

Our first task was to make a Voki and record ourselves saying a message. This is what we came up with:
Our Play - Macbeth - Performance
Writers Stories - Alison Lester
A little while ago we were part of the Sydney Writer’s Festival and took part in a writer’s workshop and masterclass with Alison Lester. Alison wrote the book “Are We There Yet?” which we read when we were looking at Australian history.
Please click on this link (the photo of the book) which will take you to the site so you can watch the Masterclass (and see some AllStars in the audience :) )
Thanks for your photo Carronshore ;)
Our Macbeth Play - Thanks (and apologies) to Shakespeare!
As part of our “History Never Repeats?” question we have been reading some of Shakespeare’s plays, because Shakespeare was an important part of history as well as writing a number of historical plays.
We have chosen to perform “Macbeth” for our class item in Assembly this week. After being inspired by Kindergarten’s performance of the story “A Dark, Dark Tale” we decided to re-write Macbeth in the same way.
To help us sort out the parts of the story we would perform, we all used Mind Maps to organise and identify the important parts of the story. You can see a composite of what we came up with on this Bubbleshare presentation ……..

We had to add the “Dark, dark” tale bits to join the story together.
Now we have to work out who will be each character and practise on the stage.
We hope to video our performance and put it, and some still photos, on our blog after Friday, so stay tuned ……
What do you think Shakespeare would say about us changing his play?
The Visitors from BECTA
Last Friday some visitors from BECTA in the UK came to visit our school to see what schools would look like in the future. There were six visitors. They only stayed for about twenty minutes in our classroom but stayed in the school for the whole morning.
We had a couple of groups and each group had a different subject, which we did in class. Everyone got to choose what we wanted to do.
They were:
- Mission Maker
- Scratch
- Voki
- Bubble Share (Macbeth)
- Wii
We each showed how we used the technology, why we used it and what it had to do with school. We all enjoyed sharing what we did, we could have talked all day about what we did at school, but the visitors only stayed for a short time!

District Athletics Reps
Congratulations to the AllStar athletics representatives.
They spent a beautiful day yesterday running, jumping, throwing, hurling and having fun out of school.
They all performed to the max and should be proud that they had the opportunity to be part of this carnival.
I competed in the shot put and discus and running. I had to run 200 metres but I didn’t place. Josh
In the 200 metre running heat I came first and the finals are next week. I also won the Junior Girls long jump with a jump of 3.15 metres. I will go to the regional carnival for long jump :) Naomi
I competed in the Senior Girls long jump - I didn’t ask how far I jumped, but I didn’t make it to the next level. :( Nancy
I did the discus at the carnival - the disc is a particular weight and you have to throw it the furthest distance. I didn’t manage to throw it very far. Gloria
I jumped in the high jump - I jumped one metre high, but the others jumped even higher. :) Kesaia

What a Busy Week!
What a great week we’ve had
Everyone has been busy writing, creating, and posting about what they have been up to! We could choose how we wanted to present our information - some people chose to write about it, others used Rock You, ToonDoo or Newspaper Generator. Check out these blogs
