John Flanagan, the author, also wrote the “Ranger’s Apprentice” books and if you liked those books then it looks like you will also like The Brotherband Chronicles.

You can find the Tashi books in the “Fast Fiction” baskets in the middle of the Library.

We now have ALL of the Tashi books – so if you have been waiting to read more about Tashi and his adventures, come in to the Library and have a browse.

Here is a YouTube video I found of Kim Gamble  (the illustrator of the Tashi books) demonstrating how he draws a  scene from the Tashi book – “Tashi and the Golem”.

I love all of the fantastic hints and tips he gives us on how to draw.

In the Library, we have been looking at how historians work, the sources of information they use and the type of questions they ask to gather information.

We have compared primary and secondary sources, sorted information found and decided if information is reliable, useful or just interesting.

here are some photos of us transferring our thinking form paper to the ipads using Popplet, which is a mind-mapping tool.

Dr Seuss is probably their favourite author at the moment, so we celebrated Dr Seuss’ birthday by making some of our own “Cat in the Hats” from a paper plate!

As you can see, they look great and are displayed in the Library near our collection of Dr Seuss books .

We have laughed so much at the crazy things that Pigeon says and does.

After watching the video about Pigeon called “Don’t let the pigeon touch the books” we decided to help Pigeon by giving him some tips to help him get along in the library.

Here is our work:

Stage 2 have been working on a design of their hand and arm which will be part of a display of one of our school rules.

The arms and hands show how we can “Reach for the Stars“ by being a positive and committed learner.

Each student traced their hand and added geometric patterns and designs to decorate their work and then students had to think of a goal they would like to work towards – some people chose academic goals while others chose social and character goals.

The chess club will meet every Monday and Wednesday at lunch-time.

Come along to learn new skills and practise with friends.

More than 15 students turned up this week to learn and play chess and all seemed to have a great time.

There has been lots of interest in the board games available in the Library this week.

We have a few new games that people have been very happy to try out.

Congratulations to everyone for trying to follow the rules of each game so that everyone has a  fun and interesting time. Games are great for practising social skills and getting to know students in other classes and grades.

It made me feel very proud to see the older students so willing and patient when playing with the littler students.

For those students who visited the Library this week — well done you are all AllStar learners!

Here are some paper lions we made to put up in our Library – aren’t they great?!?

We talked about the story and if we would like a lion in our library – some people were very brave and said that they would like a real lion to play and read with!

This got us thinking about real lions and so we decided to find an information book about lions to see if they would be able to live in a school library.

MrsP found some books and we looked at the pictures and listened to some facts about lions as well. Most of us think that real lions wouldn’t like to live in a library .

Now we know about real lions and story lions – everyone would like a story lion in the library
