Here we are measuring areas and perimeter in our playground.

We used trundle wheels to work out the perimeter of various parts of the playground, and a square metre (made out of newspaper) to work out the area of other parts of the playground.

The newspaper metre square really helped us to visualise the areas we found.

  1. Looks like great fun! Better than reading about measurement in a book. A lovely day to be outside. I like the idea about using the newspaper, although it would probably blow away or get soaked if we tried that just now!

  2. Hello Mr O!
It was a beautiful day outside – just heading into the warmer weather down here 🙂 Maybe you could measure using plastic table cloths! It wouldn’t matter if they got wet and you could use them as a parachute on a really windy day – who knows where you would end up – and you could measure how far you got as you walked back to school 😀
