Sorry

A little word that means so much!”Sorry” was said in a very special place in Australia today …….

Sorry is a word not often heard in Parliament. Nevertheless, today Prime Minister Kevin Rudd apologized on behalf the present Government to the Indigenous people of Australia.

Many people believe the apology is long overdue, but are glad that it finally came.

The “Stolen Generation” were remembered today by all of Australia.

Natalie & Lilly

The Government (in the 1900’s) had done the wrong thing to Indigenous people. They took the children away from their parents just because they didn’t have full Aboriginal background, never to see their parents again! That’s why they are called the “Stolen Generation”.

Momtahina & Nadine

The Government at the time thought they were doing the right thing ….. but Australia wants to say sorry……

Sharon & Kesaia

Today, on the 13th February, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said “Sorry” to the Stolen Generations. We thought it was fair, kind and brilliant; as well as this it was a relief to Indigenous Australians.

Justin & Winson

Reconciliation: a long word as its a long story ….. A long time ago , from the 1930’s the Government took the aboriginal children because they thought that it was the right thing to do. But nowdays we think that in most ways it was bad. Because of this our new Prime Minister said “Sorry”.

It was touching.. I watched it Live at our school, though I saw that some people were really bored (how rude!)
I’m happy that there WAS an apology, John Howard never thought that up, lol.

I agree with Nancy it was touching….
And “John Howard” after the years he was prime minister he never thought of saying sorry?
I also watched it live at my school as well. 😛

I also can’t wait for your next post 😀

    😆

  3. Hi,
I agree with Gloria that our old P.M. (prime minister) didn’t even think of saying sorry. 😥 Although people are saying that this was a bad thing the goverment did this to help educate the Aboriginal children. 😐

I knew that at some point of keven rudds life he would say sorry but not that Jhon really carred what he said was I was never around then why should I say sorry well let me just say I’m a keven rudd person so GO RUDD!!!!

  5. I think it’s great that they can apologise for something that happened a while ago when people were not as lucky as we are now in being able to communicate with and understand all different types of people from all over the world. The best thing that we can do is learn from the mistakes of those who lived before us and not repeat them! I like your ‘sorry’ display.

  6. Hi Mrs P! 🙂 Sorry for such a long comment! But i have sooooo much to say!
I think that the past prime ministers only cared for themselves. They had no feeling for anyone but themselves.
They didn’t want the Aboriginals to be happy. Ever! Just because they are Aboriginals!
They are Australian! And they are kind of the ones who developed Australia.
It was as if the Prime Ministers were punishing the Indigenous. When they didn’t even do anything!
But like they say, don’t judge a book by its cover! And they did that to the Aboriginals! They judged them and just took the families apart.
How would you like to be dragged out of your house after eating a yummy dessert of ice cream and lollies?
Not me! So thank god that god himself sent us a good Prime Minister to apologise to all those people we hurt.
I feel ashamed of how these Prime Ministers have treated the Indigenous.
    😥 🙁
Well it’s about time a Prime Minister apologises and brings Australia to peace!!! 😆

Thanks for your thoughtful and passionate response Nadine.
Remember though, that at the time the Government thought that it was providing the Aborigines with better living conditions, health care and education. They still need these services today, but taking children from their families is perhaps not the best way to go about it!

The Prime Minister usuually acts on behalf of his government, who is informed by committees and organisations. It takes a lot of people to “approve” decisions either for good or not so good – so we may not be able to blame just one person for the wrongs done in the past.

I am glad that someone had the Leadership skills to finally tackle a problem that many peopl, like yourself, feel passionate about. Keep on thinking 🙂

  7. Welcome back, AllStars!

What a great post …. I watched the ‘moment’ on the news. I think it all meant so much more because of the ‘Australia Wiki’ project we shared last year.

I learned so much about Australian history (as did last session’s P7V).

I’m looking forward to some more collaborative adventures soon 🙂

  8. @Mrs Vass, We are looking forward to working with Carronshore again any ideas?????

@Alma, hello great to hear from one of the 7aiters again 🙂 🙂 We have counted the hands (twice!!!) and we made 39 hands for our display – although it seemed like more :0

@Mrs Campbell-Morgan, your point about understanding different people got us thinking – especially about the need and benefits of talking together and working out our problems together. Thanks.

  11. Hello MrsP,
The apology was very important to the Aboriginal people.
My Pop was taken away from his parents, he was about 4yrs old when it happened. 🙁
I think that he was happy with the apology.
Would you have done the same thing if you were Prime Minister? 😕
