Photo a Day – D for Darling Harbour

Standard

Darling Harbour is a tourist destination in the city. It has parks, museums, the harbour, shopping, restaurants and the IMAX theatre.

It was called Tumbalong (which means the place where seafood is plenty) by the local Cadigal people who lived here before European settlement.

Later when Europeans arrived it was used as a long market wharf. Many immigrants first set foot on Australian soil here when they arrived in Australia.

Darling Harbour was renovated for the 1988 Bi-Centenary celebrations in Sydney and has won many tourism prizes since then.
