The Visitors from BECTA

Standard

Last Friday some visitors from BECTA in the UK came to visit our school to see what schools would look like in the future. There were six visitors. They only stayed for about twenty minutes in our classroom but stayed in the school for the whole morning.

We had a couple of groups and each group had a different subject, which we did in class. Everyone got to choose what we wanted to do.

They were:

  • Mission Maker
  • Scratch
  • Voki
  • Bubble Share (Macbeth)
  • Wii

We each showed how we used the technology, why we used it and what it had to do with school. We all enjoyed sharing what we did, we could have talked all day about what we did at school, but the visitors only stayed for a short time!

  1. We’ve used Scratch too. We think it’s really good fun to use.

We’ve made adverts about healthy teeth using Scratch. There are cool sprites that we’ve used…

Was the Wii fun to use? What game were you playing? How did you get to use it during school time?

  2. What a compliment for you that these men in suits wanted to know what you had been doing! I have just been to SETT which is a big event in Glasgow about ICT and technology. Some people were talking about your blog there as it is such a good example and you are all so good at communicating with us. Well done and keep up the good work!

  3. @Easter Carmuirs – hello and welcome back to school 🙂 Rhysco & Emze how clever to make animations using Scratch – which Sprites did you use to inform people about healthy teeth?

@Loo & Cherry – we used the wii tennis game. We learnt tennis skills outside using racquets and balls and then played the wii inside in a tournament.

@Stuie – we are making Missions at the moment – they are about different periods in history. Some kids are making Ancient Greek games, Ancient Egyptian games, or games about famous people from history such as Mary Queen of Scots, Thomas Edison and Anne Frank. We hope to get them finished next week – before we go on holidays 🙂

  4. @P6Loirston – thanks for your positive comments – we try hard to make our blog interesting, and a reflection of the sorts of things we do here in our class. Its also really great fun 😉

  5. @LL – MissionMaker is fairly straightforward to use, we watched a training video then have been playing with it for a little while. We thought of our stories, and are now trying to make the backgrounds and game fit our story. Hopefully we will have the games up by the end of October for everyone to play.

Our wii is used in PE lessons and next term we are going to use it for dance. We will let you know how we get on next term 🙂
