Marshmallows and Spaghetti?

Standard

In our first Golden Time of the year we had a challenge – which team could build the tallest tower using only marshmallows and spaghetti. The tower had to be strong enough to support a Freddo Frog.

We worked in friendship teams and tried to remember our teamwork rules and strategies:

listen

share ideas

communicate

think about what team members are saying

be friendly

and everyone participates.

All teams started off well, with lots of ideas and suggestions being made and discussed. Β The towers grew quickly but unfortunately many then collapsed and so teams had to re-group and work out how to make their tower stronger.

Some teams were able to co-operate and build on each other’s ideas to come up with a new design or plan and these teams powered on and once again their towers grew.

Some groups though, found it trickier to work together in a team. Sometimes groups didn’t listen too well to ideas and suggestions from group members, and other group members just took over and tried to build the tower by themselves.

In the end though, Sioeli, Toni , Hinok and Abudie were able to build the only self supporting tower on the day, and were declared winners. We had a heap of fun, and although we ended up sticky and full of marshmallows we all learnt a bit more about the power of team-work and supporting each other in our learning πŸ™‚

Oh and PS we all got a Freddo on the way out – yum yum!
