Photo A day – K – Kangaroo

Standard

Kangaroos are Australian animals, their family name is Macropod – which means “big foot” – and they are mammals. This means that they give birth to live babies, called Joeys, which are only a few centimetres long and who climb into their mother’s pouch just after they are born.

Joeys live in the pouch until they grow fur, open their eyes and are strong enough to support themselves (approximately 190 days).

Joey’s are kept safe in the pouch until they are about 250 days old, when they are big and strong enough to live outside the pouch.
